Brief Encounters (2017-2018)
Brief Encounters culls its text from Craigslist’s Missed Connections section, an online postings board of people searching for those strangers and former lovers who got away. In each piece, the artist has embodied an actual woman described in one such post, in dress, demeanor, and setting. The artist photographed their subject— women in quotidian life— the way male posters to Craiglist capture them in their posts on Missed Connections: as decontextualized objects of lust. Brief Encounters confronts its viewer through direct eye contact, and complicates the gaze between subject and viewer that could be described as connection, but also as discomfort, or lust, or loneliness.
Previously installed at List Art Center at Brown University, in Providence, RI (11.30.18-12.06.18)
Spring Cleaning (2019)
Spring Cleaning is a collection which connects material and textual remnants; each photo set is composed of an object the artist has in their possession, gifted or forgotten, from someone with whom the artist is no longer in contact— as well as the last incoming text message from that person. The series considers where the past lives, both in material and virtual space.
Spring Cleaning was exhibited at the Perry and Marty Granoff Center for the Creative Arts in Providence, RI through May 2019.
